| Kindergarten | | | | Children meet the standard of writing everyday. | We have 3 sections of full day kindergarten. We have a full time ELL teacher trained specifically to teach kindergarten level second language learners and full time bilingual aides assisting in the classrooms. The diversity in our classrooms gives the students the opportunity to work and play with others, while learning tolerance, respect, and the appreciation of differences.
CURRICULUM
Our kindergarten curriculum focuses on personal and social development, language and literacy and mathematical thinking. Each full-day classroom schedules a Morning Meeting time, a Reader’s Workshop block, a Writer’s Workshop block and a Math block. Each classroom also has time each day for free choice play activities. This time is an important part of their personal, social and language development. During “prep” time the children rotate through art, music and physical education classes. Time is | | Ready to pick apples! | also set aside weekly for computer lab activities and a library visit.
FIELD TRIPSOur first field trip will be to the Maplewood Nature Center.
In January we are going to the Como Planetarium to learn about the day and night sky. New concepts that are introduced include: the horizon, the directions ( east, west, north and south) and constellations. We see the changes in the sky as the day changes into night in the planetarium sky. It is a fabulous learning experience.
Other field trips are being planned for the Children’s Museum, the Mill City Museum, and a second trip to the Maplewood Nature Center. Watch for updates on our adventures.
