Welcome to third grade! I enjoy working with third grade English language learners at Frost Lake.   This is my fourth year teaching at Frost Lake. I have taught at several other schools in Saint Paul.  I grew up in Minnesota and began learning Spanish when I was in fifth grade. I continued  learning it in high school and college.  This is how I became interested in how people learn languages and working with children who are learning English.  Becoming an ELL teacher was a natural fit for me.  I am excited about helping children become stronger in English and better readers and writers.

Frost Lake students speak about twenty different home languages. I am one of two ELL teaachers working in third grade.  I co-teach with Mrs. Gates and Ms. Kuehlwein. I primarily work with students during Reader's  and Writer's Workshop.   The third grade classroom teachers and I co-teach the lesson to all students.  We provide language support to help all students be successful and participate in the lesson.

After the lesson, the classroom teacher works with guided reading groups and I teach English language development groups.   My lessons support students in developing vocabulary and language skills in academic English and connects with the comprehension and reading strategies taught to the whole class.
