Math
Curriculum: Frost Lake uses the Everyday Math Curriculum. It is a spiraling curriculum, that teaches a part of a concept, gives students time to practice what they have learned and then returns to the concept to add a new part. For example in telling time. They start out learning telling time to the hour, then they may move to measuring in inches, counting pennies etc.. All the while practicing the hour hand. Eventually returning to telling time and adding telling time to the half hour.

Currently: Each 2nd grade classroom is in a different place in the curriculum. Most of the classes are working on Unit 6  Unit  6 teaches students about  subtracting with regrouping, this used to be called borrowing.  If students do not know their subtraction math facts they will really have trouble with this unit.  Please make sure your child is practicing fact triangles several times a week.  Unit 6 is also when students get introduced to multiplication, they will learn how to work with an array and the way that leads to multiplication.
