Reader’s Workshop
Frost Lake’s sixth grade uses Reader’s Workshop to teach reading. This is a proven model to increase student reading success. Students are provided with one hour of reading instruction. During the mini lesson, students gather in a community rug area to receive whole group instruction. During work time, students read independently from books of their own choosing, work on weekly reader’s response letters, conference with teachers, or meet in small guided reading groups. During share time, students share how they used the instruction strategy. To learn more about Reader’s Workshop, click on the Reader’s Workshop link.
Writer’s Workshop
Frost Lake’s sixth grade uses Writer’s Workshop to teach writing. Students are immersed in writing for one hour a day. Writer’s Workshop is very similar to Reader’s Workshop with whole group mini lesson, work time, and share time. To learn more about Writer’s Workshop, click on the Writer’s Workshop link.
Everyday Math
Frost Lake’s sixth grade uses the Everyday Math Program, a rigorous program filled with real-world problem -solving, calculating practice, and skills games. Look at Ms. Lund's webpage for loads of links to games, puzzles, and other resources.
